Karen Renee Nguyen, Certified Nurse Midwife
When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a nurse.
I volunteered as a Candy Striper for years, and I was always happy when I got
to be on the Maternity Ward. I loved seeing mothers with their round bellies
and all the little babies. Years later I would go to college to become a nurse.
I loved working as a Registered Nurse.
I have worked in HIV/AIDS care, in the Newborn Nursery, in the Neonatal ICU, on Labor and Delivery, and I have practiced as a Breastfeeding Consultant. Seeing my passion for mothers and babies I was encouraged by my husband to go to Nurse Midwifery School.
I am a 1999 graduate from the first class of Nurse Midwifery students from Shenandoah University and began Midwifery work in December of that year.
For 25 years I have served the Winchester Community as a CNM in a variety of offices-
always looking for the right fit for my clients and for my own life with my own family.
I have delivered babies at home and at Winchester Medical Center- delivering over 3000 babies.
I have cared for Low-risk and High-risk pregnancies, and have provided
Women's Healthcare across the lifespan to so many wonderful women of this little community.
I have learned so much about women and their babies over the years from other midwives, doctors, and nurses.
But most of all, I learned from actively listening to women.
At this stage of my life, I am bringing together all of my experiences to create a change in
how women receive Maternity and Women's Healthcare.
Midwifery care truly allows intimacy with women and makes a difference in so many ways.
Your visits should be meaningful and engaging each and every time.
These are precious moments.
In my personal time, I am a wife (to my husband Khanh), a mother to my three grown children and their loved ones,
a "Mimi" to eight grandchildren (and counting), and a daughter to two amazingly supportive parents.
I enjoy baking, singing, hiking & biking with my husband, traveling (especially to Vietnam), seeking beautiful and simple moments with my family, and being actively involved in my faith community at Bethel Lutheran Church Winchester.
